Learn-To-Fish in Kansas

Practice Makes Perfect - Cast a Line

Kansas is full of avid anglers and experienced fishermen, but we also make it easy for those just starting out! If you, or your family, are brand new to fishing, the activity, while fun, can seem quite messy and intimidating. But no worries, Kansas has so many places that will accommodate the novice angler!

Our state has dozens of federal reservoirs and hundreds of county and community lakes. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has a program that stocks thousands of channel cats and trout in many public waters within our largest cities. Across our prairie-dominated landscape, the agency has leased over 200 private lakes and ponds and 50 miles of privately owned rivers and streams.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks also has great how-to videos online. Kansas has over 450 certified fishing instructors giving clinics across the state. If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about fishing, there’s no place like Kansas. There’s no better time than now!
