Things to Do in Paxico, Kansas

Paxico, located in Wabaunsee County a mile off Interstate 70 and along Mill Creek, was founded in 1886 with the coming together of two small communities; Old Paxico, a mile east of present day Paxico and Newbury, a mile north because of the railroad. The post office was given the name Paxico, an anglicized version of Pashqua, after a Native American medicine man who lived on the banks of Mill Creek.

Our historic downtown features several unique buildings on the historic register and housing antique stores, an art gallery and the Long Branch Bar & Grill.  The City Park has two Pickleball courts and playgrounds.  Mill Creek Campground located on the banks of the creek offers RV facilities and cabins.  Enjoy wine tasting and the view at Prairie Fire Winery on Snokomo Frontage Road and Wyldewood Winery, a mile west of town.  Take art lessons at the Brown Rabbit Studio or purchase a lovely painting.

The Bolton Wildlife Preserve, north of town, offers an opportunity for exploring the flora and fauna of Mill Creek Valley.  On your way, visit the "Cathedral of the Flint Hills", Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Its twin steeples can be seen from I-70.  Enjoy the quiet and slower pace in our community.
