Things to do in Milford, Kansas

Milford is known as the “City of Beautiful Sunsets” from its location along the shores of Milford Lake. It is a thriving community offering lake access and many recreational opportunities.

The community was reborn when the complete city was entirely moved to its present location during the building of Milford Lake in the early 1960s. Many of the foundations of the original buildings can be found underwater off the shoreline of the existing town.

Kansas First, Kansas Best. This was the boast of the first radio station in Kansas, KFKB, which operated in Milford. It was proclaimed at the time as the nation’s most popular radio station. Its popularity was offset by the reputation of the station’s owner/operator, Dr. John “Goat Gland” Brinkley, who used the airwaves to sell medicines and offer goat-gland surgical transplants. Dr. Brinkley was eventually run out of Kansas, but Milford’s place in Kansas and radio history will live on.
