Maple Hill is a quick stop off I-70 that you do not want to miss. There you will find The Eliot Union Congregational Church “The Old Stone Church”, dedicated in 1882. The church sits on a hillside with a cemetery surrounding 3 sides, making for a picturesque setting. The church is rich in history with the beginnings in 1875 when early settlers met to organize a church.
In early times Maple Hill was an important town to the Rock Island railroad. Its freight and passenger business was equal to that of towns ten times its size. Cattle were shipped in and out by the train loads. Hogs, wheat, prairie and alfalfa hay were also shipped out. Incoming freight consisted of linseed meal, corn, lumber, coal, dry goods, and groceries.
Attractions in or near the Maple Hill community include the Walking Turtle Studio, East Bank at Mill Creek, and the Keene Road Country Estate.
