Things to do in Hoisington, Kansas

Located in Barton County, Hoisington was originally founded in 1886 and named after Andrew Hoisington. The town was a major rail depot within Barton County through much of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The local area is surrounded by wetlands, natural gas, and even oil fields, making the region incredibly beautiful and resource-rich.

Today, Hoisington sits along the gorgeous Wetlands and Wildlife Scenic Byway. The nearby Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area is the largest wetland in the interior U.S. sitting around 41,000 acres and is only roughly fifteen minutes away from Hoisington! This wetland region of Kansas is a bird lover’s paradise with around 320 species of birds that frequent the area.
