Downs is a city in Osborne County located right of US-24.
Whether it is the Sod and Stubble monument at the U.S. 24 rest stop, the annual Kansas Storytelling Festival, or one of the many other events held throughout the year, Downs is known for the arts. Visit the Carnegie Library and view the extensive collection of tea cups and pots. Downs also has excellent places to shop, including the Shoes Etc. & Stonz Jewelry store as well as Flowers, Plants & Things. For those looking for an overnight stay, be sure to check out the Shady Grove Cabins or the West Lake Inn.
In 1879, when Downs was first founded, it was primarily a railroad town. Today, 126 years later, even though paved roads have largely replaced the existing rail lines, Downs holds onto its historical heritage as a railroad town. Visitors can see the history at the restored Downs Historic Railroad Depot.
Excellent hunting and fishing are also available at nearby Glen Elder State Park.
Here during the summer? Then cool off at the Downs Swimming Pool!
