Just 6 miles south of Wilson State Park in the Smoky Hills region of Kansas is the community of Dorrance. This historic rail town was first settled in 1870 by European immigrants mostly from England, Ireland, and Germany. The town was named after the railroad superintendent, Oliver Dorranceten, ten years later in 1880.
The city is not far from the incredibly beautiful Post-Rock Scenic Byway, which rests between the cities of Lucas and Wilson. While the community is small, it is surrounded by beautiful scenery and history all around!
