Clay Center is located in Clay County at the intersection of K-15 and US-24, just a few miles northwest of Milford State Park. The city does a great job of supplying visitors with great family-friendly activities. The Clay Center Carnegie Library and the adjacent Windows to Literacy are excellent places to bring kids for mentally stimulating activities. If you happen to be here during the summer, then be sure to check out the Clay Center Aquatic Park, which is an excellent place for the whole family.
Clay Center also has a lot of cool and exciting places to eat! The local Tasty Pastry Bakery & Coffee Shop is the prime spot for morning coffee and donuts. If you are looking for lunch or dinner, then be sure to look at other local favorites like Miss Marie's Diner or the 15-24 Brew House. Some hotspots in Clay Center tend to leave people genuinely flabbergasted. Places such as Java Junkies and the Happy Hippie Studios give off such enjoyable and relaxing vibes that many visitors don't even believe they are in a "small town" anymore!
Each year, the city's "Pio-tique" Festival (a portmanteau of Pioneer and Antique) is on the last Saturday of September. Hundreds of people come to Clay Center to participate and enjoy food vendors, craft booths, activities, live entertainment, and dancing on the Clay County Courthouse lawn. The festival begins with a Pio-tique Road race held downtown early in the morning.
What also shocks visitors when they come to Clay Center is how vibrant and alive the art scene is. Throughout the town are beautiful and picturesque art murals as part of the city's Mural Movement.
