Things to do in Barnes, Kansas

Barnes is a quaint little village of 160 citizens, located in Washington County, 45 minutes north of Manhattan, KS on Kansas Highways 9 and 148. A great day trip for shopping the niche shops, which include an antique store, year-round Christmas shop, plus an indoor village with vendors supplying everything from the rustic to modern, including home decorating items. Dine at one of the two eateries, featuring made from scratch dishes. You don’t want to miss the homemade pies and pastries, just waiting to be tasted. Don’t pass-up the restored I.O.O.F. Park founded in the early 1900’s, featuring the smallest band shell in Kansas built by the WPA in 1939. Barnes is home to the lighted horse parade the Saturday evening following Thanksgiving. The Antique and Junque Fest is held the 3rd Saturday in August. Plan to wave at everyone as you drive by, they will wave back! Website: www.barnesks.net
