Alma is the county seat of Wabaunsee County and is known as the “City of Native Stone.” In downtown Alma, you will find a historic district with 21 buildings of architectural significance between 1880 and 1936, including Cottonwood Limestone buildings. Alma is also home to the Wabaunsee County Historical Museum, with photo and artifact displays that provide information on the area’s historic sites.
Although a small community, Alma is a part of the Scenic Mill Creek Drive and Native Stone Scenic Byway, both beautiful drives allowing you to explore the Flint Hills.
Like many communities in Kansas, Alma’s main economic driver is agriculture. But it’s not just experiencing the farming operations through things like pumpkin patches and ranch adventure that you’ll find here… You’ll also be able to experience the ‘table’ portion of the farm-to-table movement at places like:
Be sure to stop by the Antique Emporium or book the Rink co-working and event center!
Annual attractions include Hot Alma Nights Car Show held the 3rd Saturday in August, the Wabaunsee County Fair, and the Wabaunsee County Spring Livestock Show which is the premier livestock event in the Midwest.
