The Evel Knievel Museum - Topeka

A legendary museum for a legendary daredevil! The Evel Knievel Museum matches Evel’s vibe with being over-the-top, flashy, and ridiculously cool. Read on to learn about what makes this museum such a spectacular attraction in Kansas’ Capital City.

My initial question when I first learned of the Evel Knievel Museum was the significance of the location in Topeka, knowing EK was born in Montana. The first exhibit, when you walk into the museum, will explain the connections made, friendships formed, and ideas put into motion to bring the museum to the Historic Harley Davidson of Topeka. I’ve read this story each time I have visited, and it always leaves me with a smile and a little can-do inspiration.

The museum itself is 2 floors of exhibits, so plan at least 2 hours for your visit. While on the first floor you’ll get an up-close view of EK’s infamous Big Red Mack truck that has been fully restored and shines bright like a diamond. The rig’s restoration took the Topeka Harley Davidson crew over a year and a half with nearly 100 individuals and businesses working on the project. You can watch a documentary at the museum that showcases the restoration from start to finish.

The second floor of the museum is my personal favorite because of the interactive exhibits. “Bad to the Bones” digital display allows you to select an area on EK’s body to see if it has been broken, how many times, and the jumps that caused the injury. Nearby, you will find the virtual reality experience that has you sit on a real motorcycle while you soar over 16 cars. Upstairs also houses the infamous rocket from the Snake River Canyon jump.

This museum is truly for all ages. From the nostalgic merchandise and costumes, and the interactive exhibits to video clips, there’s no way you’re leaving without a good time! Bonus, with Topeka being the Capital of Kansas, there is plenty to see, eat, do, and stay in #TopCity.
