Things to Do in Wellington, Kansas

Wellington, Kansas is a lovely community only 30 minutes south of Wichita via Interstate 35 or US Highway 81. Located in the heart of Sumner County as the county seat, Wellington is a great place to raise kids with state level athletic programs, a historic movie theater, an active recreation/fitness center, beautiful parks, and many community service organizations and churches.

There are enough shopping options that you don't necessarily have to leave town to find what you need. New small businesses are opening regularly and thriving!

We have two public bodies of water within the city limits, including a large public park with a waterfall and disc golf. Wellington lake is a short four-mile drive west of town and offers many camping options, a swimming beach, trails, and fishing. Golfers from all over the world visit our gorgeous 18-hole golf course!

The Chisholm Trail Museum, National Depression Glass Museum, and Panhandle Railroad Museum are a must-see!

Visit Wellington in the second week of July to catch the Kansas Wheat Festival. This four-day festival celebrates Sumner County's title as the Wheat Capital of the World and includes nightly entertainment, food trucks, contests, a carnival, a large parade and more!
