Things to do in Sun City, Kansas

Sun City, est. 1872. Col. Griffin, a buffalo hunter opened a Trading Post in 1871, a stockade was built in 1874. In the 1880s hotels, paper, livery stable, bank saloons & bakery thrived. The Mill for wheat &corn meal was built, and now, the Gypsum Mine, south of the city of Sun, hauls to the Gold Bond Plant in Medicine Lodge, where wallboard is made & shipped nationwide, still today! Known for the McLain Rodeo Roundup, 1922 -1938, owned by Mac McLain, world's largest Rodeo brought cowboys, associated with the Cowboys Turtle Association! Carnivals, Indians, dances, and much more, it was a rival to Buffalo Bill's Show. Buster's Saloon, open by season. The High School is now a Community Center. Hunters love the area, for deer, turkey, pheasants & other wildlife!
