Sharon Springs is the county seat of Wallace County and is renowned for its unique architecture. The town is the junction point for two of the State's Byways. Travel north towards the Nebraska border on K-27 and you'll be on the Land & Sky Scenic Byway. Travel east towards the city of Oakley, KS on US-40, and then south on US-83 towards Scott City, KS and you'll have traversed the Historic Western Vistas Byway.
Originally known as Eagle Tail Station, when founded in 1868, it was eventually renamed to Sharon Springs in 1886, and incorporated as a city in 1890. Not far from the Kansas-Colorado border, the city bolsters a high elevation of nearly 3,500 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest cities in all of Kansas!
