Russell Springs is a small Northwest Kansas community located in Logan County. The city is located on K-25 and is only about 10 miles south of the Western Vistas Historic Byway. While the city isn't directly on the byway route, many visitors take the time to stop at the Butterfield Trail Museum. The trail, also known as the Smoky Hill Trail, served as a mail route for stagecoaches before railroads eventually dominated the industry. Many of the historic aspects of Russell Springs and the Western Vistas Byway are showcased at the Butterfield Trail Museum.
The region around Russell Springs is also an ideal place to get away from the effects of light pollution. Far from any major cities or medium-sized towns, Russell Springs is an excellent place to look up at the sky at night!
