Russell is the most populous city in the county seat of Russell County with a population of around 4,000 residents. Russell has multiple notable people two of them being Phillip Anschutz and Bob Dole. Anschutz is a billionaire businessman who owns companies in a variety of industries including energy, sports, newspapers, real estate, and music. Dole served as a long-time U.S. senator from Kansas (1969-96), Republican Leader of the Senate (1985-1996), and the Republican nominee for president of the United States in 1996.
