The town of Rantoul is located southeast of Ottawa. In 1859 the town was named in honor of Robert Rantoul and the first post office was named for Senator Robert Rantoul, Jr. of Massachusetts and was established in 1862. The Flint Hills State Park Trail runs thru Rantoul, this trail runs from Osawatomie to Herington. A well-known aviation company is located near Rantoul. The business restores airplanes and buys/sells parts for planes. There is a therapeutic horse riding center located at Vermont and John Brown Road. Rantoul is also the home to an agri-tourism business which consists of a pumpkin patch, a Christmas tree farm and a Christmas Light Display. This business is seasonal.
